2005 Lincoln LS Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was a Wednesday afternoon, over in the Live Oak Park Area of Fallbrook. A nanny was doing preschool pickup with a 2005 Lincoln LS and the only key had gone through a full wash cycle in someone's jacket pocket.
The fob was dead on buttons. The car actually started, which told me the transponder had survived somehow, but the remote functions were completely gone. Two kids in the back, about an hour before the parents expected everyone home, and the dealer had already told her Friday was the earliest they could look at it.
I met her in the parking lot and opened the key head on my work board. The circuit board inside had the corrosion you'd expect from a full laundry trip, dried detergent residue across the contacts. The transponder coil had held up, which explained why the ignition still turned over, but the remote board was done.
New remote head key, cut to the vehicle, programmed on site through the OBD port. The immobilizer accepted the new key after the security timer ran its course. Tested all three buttons walking the car, tested the ignition twice, and she was buckled in and rolling in well under 90 minutes from my first call.
The dealer route would have been a tow, a multi-day wait, and a parts order. She saved a good chunk and didn't miss pickup.
