2015 MINI Countryman
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2015 MINI Countryman Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A Shadowridge resident called me on a Tuesday morning. She had driven to the Vista Target on Shadowridge Drive the night before, and when she came out, the fob stopped unlocking the doors.

She got in with the emergency metal key hidden inside the fob, but the push-button start would not fire. The dash showed a key-not-detected warning. She left the car overnight and called me from her driveway the next day after getting a ride home.

I drove out to the Target lot. The fob looked fine from the outside. No cracks, no visible damage. I popped it open and the CR2032 was sitting slightly off-center, one edge of the battery not making full contact with the clip. Reseated it, closed it up, and the fob woke right back up. Doors unlocked, start button recognized it, everything came back.

She mentioned the dealer had told her over the phone she would probably need a new fob programmed. That would have taken a dealer appointment, a wait, and a bill she was not going to enjoy.

Turned out to be a battery seating issue in a parking lot. I walked every button, checked the emergency blade, confirmed the vehicle security system was seeing the fob clean on my scanner before I packed up. Total time on site was under twenty minutes.

That is the job I like. Not every call needs a new key. Sometimes it needs someone who checks the simple thing first and has the tools to confirm it when the simple fix works.
