I got a call from someone over near The Bridges in Rancho Santa Fe on a Friday night. She'd been at a dinner thing, came back out, and the fob was just dead. Nothing. No lock, no unlock, no panic. The blade still worked, so she got in and drove home, but now she was sitting in the driveway wondering if the whole key was gone.

She started the car, locked it from across the driveway, and that was it. Done in the dark in about 35 minutes. She mentioned the dealer quoted her a wait of several days just to get an appointment. That wasn't going to work on a Friday night.

I didn't make a big deal out of the timing. It was just a normal job for us. But for her, being stuck at 9 PM with no working key and a dealer who closed at 5 is not a small thing. That's exactly why I stay available until 11:30.
