2007 Pontiac Vibe
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How long does programming take once you're at my car?

For a 2007 Vibe with a working key already present, the remote programming portion is quick, usually under fifteen minutes once I'm set up at the vehicle. All-keys-lost takes longer because the immobilizer needs to be addressed before new keys are accepted, and there's a procedure involved that adds time. Either way, you're well under an hour from my arrival to a tested, working key in your hand.

Q: Can you make a key faster than the dealer?

It's not close. Dealers work on appointment schedules, and if the fob isn't sitting on a shelf they order it and you wait for shipping. Then you bring the car in. We carry key blanks and fobs on every call and do the whole job in one same-day visit. No scheduling, no waiting for parts, no second trip.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2007 Vibe. Will it just work, or does it need programming?

It needs programming. An unprogrammed fob from any source, whether it's a dealer part or an aftermarket unit with the correct factory FCC ID on the housing, will not operate the locks until it's been enrolled to your specific vehicle. On this generation Vibe, the remote enrollment can be handled through an onboard procedure, which is good news. But you still need to go through the steps correctly, and if anything goes sideways during the sequence the fob won't take.

Q: My Vibe starts fine but the key-not-detected warning shows up on the dash. What's actually going on?

That's the immobilizer side, not the remote. The car saw the key but didn't fully read the transponder chip on that cycle. It can come from a worn key, a damaged chip inside the blade, or an antenna ring around the ignition that's starting to fail. If it's intermittent, the chip or antenna is the first place to look. Don't ignore it, because intermittent becomes no-start eventually.

2007 Pontiac Vibe Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call out to RB Town Center on a weekday morning. Owner of a 2007 Pontiac Vibe had one working key left and the fob had stopped responding to anything. Locks, unlock, nothing. She'd already swapped the CR2032 herself, which was the right call, but the buttons still sat there dead.

When I got there, the key blade still started the car fine. So the transponder was good. The issue was isolated to the remote side of the fob. I checked the contact points inside the housing, found some corrosion along the battery tray edge, cleaned it up, and tested again. Still nothing. The fob board itself had given up.

So I pulled a replacement fob from the van, cut a new key blade to match her vehicle, and ran the remote programming procedure. On a Vibe this generation, the remote can be enrolled through an onboard sequence, so no separate programming module needed for the fob side. Took maybe twenty minutes start to finish.

She asked what the dealer would have charged and how long it would have taken. I told her to call and ask sometime, just for fun. She already knew the answer.

Pontiac Vibe Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a key after hours or on the weekend?▼

Call us. Dealer service departments close in the late afternoon and Saturday hours are limited. If you lose your only key on a Friday night in Rancho Bernardo, you're looking at Monday at the earliest before a dealer can even start the process. We work evenings and weekends because that's exactly when most people realize they have a key problem.
