2011 Porsche Cayenne Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Harbison Canyon, off one of the quieter canyon roads in Alpine, I got a call about a 2011 Cayenne fob that was holding together with what I can only describe as optimism.
The housing had split along the side seam, the nose was chipped, and two of the five buttons had that dead, sunken feel where the rubber contact underneath has worn down to almost nothing. The car still started and the doors still unlocked, but barely.
She had taken it to the dealer first. They told her the whole key needed to be replaced, gave her a number that made her pause, and sent her on her way.
When I got there, I opened the fob on the hood of my van and checked the internal board first. No corrosion, no cracked solder points, no water damage. The chip was reading fine. The electronics were completely solid. The only thing that had failed was the plastic.
I transferred the board and battery clip into a fresh replacement shell, reseated the button contacts, and closed it up. Then I walked every function: passive unlock on both front doors, trunk release, lock, and the ignition authorization. Everything worked the way it should.
The whole thing took about thirty-five minutes on site. She didn't need a new programmed key at all. The dealer quote was for a job that wasn't necessary. That's the part that sticks with me on these calls.
