2018 Porsche Cayenne
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2018 Porsche Cayenne Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A retired professor called me from an orthopedic rehab center in Carmel Mountain Ranch. He had a recent knee replacement, was still in a brace, and his aide was off for the day.

His 2018 Porsche Cayenne was sitting in the lot, and his only key had gotten to the point where turning the ignition was a real fight. Not locked up, but grinding and catching on every turn. He said it had been getting worse for months and he had just been muscling through it.

Getting across San Diego to a Porsche dealer was not a realistic option. No driver, no way to sit in a low car for long, and no guarantee the dealer would have anything ready same day anyway.

I drove out to him that morning. The key blade was visibly worn, and when I decoded the ignition, I could see exactly where the wafers were fighting the key. I cut a fresh blade to match what the cylinder needed, fitted it into a new flip shell, and confirmed the transponder was reading cleanly. Three consecutive starts, no hesitation.

He did not have to call anyone for a ride or wait days for a part to arrive from overseas. The whole thing was done in the rehab parking lot before his afternoon physical therapy session. He mentioned the dealer had quoted him a significant wait just to order the key, plus the logistics of getting there with a knee brace. That part of the conversation was brief. The key worked. That was the point.
