2012 Porsche Cayenne
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2012 Porsche Cayenne Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A semi-retired surgeon parked in the lot near Buena Creek had been running his 2012 Porsche Cayenne on a single fob for three years.

Not because he forgot to get a spare, but because every time he thought about it, he pictured the dealer visit and moved on. He finally called the Porsche dealer. They quoted him a number that made him pause, told him the key would ship from Germany, and said he would need two separate appointments once it arrived.

He called me instead.

I met him at the lot. He was relaxed about it, just wanted it done. The kind of customer who asks one question and then steps back and lets you work.

I decoded the lock, cut a replacement key blade to match, and then connected through the OBD port to register the new fob to the vehicle's immobilizer. The Cayenne's security system communicates with the key through the keyless module, so pairing has to be done with the right diagnostic equipment. No ignition trick, no button sequence. Just the tool, the car, and about 40 minutes in a parking lot.

When I handed it over, he tested every button, tried the start, locked and unlocked it twice. Then he said he should have called a year ago. I told him most people say that.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer wanted, and he never left the parking lot.
