2017 Porsche Cayenne Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
There is a parking lot off a private tennis facility near Richland where I showed up on a Tuesday morning to a 2017 Cayenne sitting completely locked out. The owner was a commercial real estate broker with back-to-back property tours starting in two hours.
His smart key had stopped being recognized by the car overnight. He tried holding the fob close to the steering column, the way owners do when they suspect a weak signal. Nothing. The dash was showing a key-not-detected warning and push-to-start would not respond.
He had already called the dealer. Three business days, they told him. Plus a flatbed tow since the car would not start.
I connected my diagnostic equipment through the OBD port, read the immobilizer data, and registered a replacement fob to the vehicle. The original fob turned out to have a damaged internal antenna, probably from being dropped at some point. That kind of damage does not always kill range immediately. It degrades slowly until one day the car just stops seeing it.
The new fob paired clean. I walked the full test sequence: passive lock and unlock at both front doors, the liftgate, push-to-start from the driver seat, push-to-start from the passenger side with the fob inside the cabin, and a manual lock cycle. Everything working.
He was backing out of the lot well inside ninety minutes of my arrival. The dealer quote was a fraction of what he had mentally prepared to spend, and that was before factoring in the tow and the three-day wait.
