Out in Richland, over near the beach lot in San Marcos, a guy called me on a Saturday afternoon with that specific kind of calm that comes after the panic already burned itself out.
He had searched for thirty minutes, retraced every step from the water back to the parking area, and his only key to his 2014 FR-S was gone. Not misplaced. Gone. He was staring at the car like it was a locked room he used to live in. His next idea was a tow and a multi-day dealer appointment.
I told him I could be there that afternoon and that he did not need a tow.
When I pulled up he was sitting on the curb next to the car. I got the door open mechanically, decoded the wafer positions from the lock, and cut a fresh key blade to match. Then I connected at the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure. That sequence resets the immobilizer and registers the new remote head key as the only authorized key. The old lost key, wherever it ended up, is now dead to that car.
He watched the whole thing from about two feet away, which I prefer. When the engine turned over in the same lot where the car had been sitting stranded, he just nodded slowly like he was confirming something he had almost stopped believing.
Dealer would have needed the tow, the wait, and a bill that would have made him wince. He got none of that. Lock decode to engine running took about thirty-five minutes, done on site.
