Out in Richland, over near the beach lot in San Marcos, a guy called me on a Saturday afternoon with that specific kind of calm that comes after the panic already burned itself out. He had searched for thirty minutes, retraced every step from the water back to the parking area, and his only key to his 2014 FR-S was gone. Not misplaced. Gone. He watched the whole thing from about two feet away, which I prefer. When the engine turned over in the same lot where the car had been sitting stranded, he just nodded slowly like he was confirming something he had almost stopped believing.
