2013 Scion IQ
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2013 Scion IQ Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman in Old Poway called me on a weekday afternoon. She was parked near the historic district, standing next to her 2013 Scion iQ, and her key fob had stopped unlocking the doors. She'd been clicking it for a solid ten minutes before deciding that wasn't going to help.

She told me she'd called the dealer first. They wanted her to come in, leave the car, and wait for a diagnosis before they'd even quote the job. That was a full day out of her schedule for a car she could technically still start by hand.

I got there and started at the beginning. Checked the CR2016, which was original and basically flat. Swapped it, cleaned the contact terminals inside the fob housing, and reseated the circuit board. Tested all three buttons standing next to the car. Lock and unlock came back immediately. The third button responded too.

Then I turned the key to confirm the immobilizer was happy. Started right up, no warning on the dash, no hesitation.

The whole thing took about fifteen minutes. She didn't need a new key programmed. She needed someone to actually look at what was happening instead of routing her through a service bay for a week. The dealer comparison came up on its own when she got my invoice. She mentioned what they'd quoted just to drop the car off. I told her I understood the frustration. She laughed and said she was going to tell her neighbor, who apparently has the same car parked two streets over.
