2015 Scion IQ Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the Westwood neighborhood in Rancho Bernardo when the call came in. Guy at an apartment complex, one working key left on his 2015 Scion IQ, wanted a spare cut before he ended up with nothing.
He had already called the dealer. They quoted him a number that made him pause, and when he told me what it was I told him straight: not even close to what this should cost.
The IQ is a small car, but the key job is not a simple one. The remote head key is a combined unit, blade and transponder and remote all in one piece, and cutting it blind without the original means reading the door lock to pull the bitting. I decoded the lock right there in the parking lot, cut the blade to match, and programmed the transponder chip through the OBD port. The whole thing ran about 25 minutes.
When I handed it over he tested it himself. Turned the ignition, tried the lock and unlock buttons, checked that both keys started the car without any warning light staying on. Everything clean.
He never left the building. The dealer comparison barely came up again because the gap spoke for itself.
