2017 Subaru BRZ Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
The call came in from Poway Business Park, somewhere along the industrial corridor. Guy worked third shift at a distribution facility and his only fob had been acting up for a couple weeks.
Touch unlock on the driver door was getting inconsistent, start button would think about it longer than it used to. He swapped the battery himself, reseated it, thought that fixed it. Then one night it stopped waking the car entirely.
He was standing in the parking lot at the back of the complex with a BRZ that wouldn't acknowledge any key. He had the emergency blade in his wallet, thought about calling a tow, and then called me instead.
When I got to Poway Business Park, the car was sitting in a dim section of the lot away from the main entrance. I connected to the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the Subaru smart key system. It takes a few minutes because there's a timed sequence built into the immobilizer enrollment. Not something you rush.
New fob, paired and tested. Every button confirmed. Door touch unlock working on both sides. Start button seeing the fob cleanly. Emergency blade cut to the car and verified in the door lock.
He had a working key before the shift started. No tow. No dealer appointment a week out. He said he didn't know a locksmith could do any of that in a parking lot.
Most people don't, until they need it.
