2008 Subaru Tribeca
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2008 Subaru Tribeca Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She found me through a neighbor in Coronado Village. Physical therapist, long days, always parked in her own driveway by the time she could deal with anything.

The key had been falling apart for a while. The ring loop at the top snapped off first, then the rubber buttons started wearing through so the plastic underneath was almost exposed. It still started the car, still locked and unlocked, but the shell was held together by habit more than anything else.

The dealer told her a new key was the only path forward. They quoted her a number that made her pause, and nobody there mentioned that the circuit board and the transponder chip inside her key were functioning fine.

I met her at the driveway. She handed me the key and I could see the damage immediately. The shell was cracked through at the top, and one button pad had a small tear. But I popped it open and the board was clean. Good solder points, no corrosion, nothing bent. The original electronics were solid.

I transferred the board and chip into a replacement shell, seated the CR2032 fresh, and buttoned it back up. Then I cut a new blade to match the vehicle and tested every button for range from the far end of the driveway. Lock, unlock, panic, trunk release. All of them clean.

She looked at it like she was waiting for something to go wrong. It didn't.

The expensive parts were never broken. She just needed someone willing to diagnose before replacing.
