2013 Subaru Tribeca
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2013 Subaru Tribeca Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked on Third Avenue in Third Avenue Village finishing paperwork when the call came in. A grad student, apartment visitor lot a few blocks away, had a 2013 Tribeca with a remote head key that was visibly failing.

The plastic housing had cracked at the blade pivot and he could see it separating. He knew it was a matter of days before the blade snapped clean off inside the ignition.

He had already called the dealer. They told him to tow the vehicle in, quoted him a wait for the part, and gave him a number that made him pause.

I drove over. He met me in the lot.

The blade was cracked through but still readable. I decoded the lock to pull the cut, generated a replacement key blade, and got to work on the programming side. The transponder in the new remote head key needed to be registered to the immobilizer, which is the part a hardware store can never do. The whole job ran under 40 minutes.

He paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted. No tow, no waiting room, no part on order. He held up the new key and checked every button before I packed up. Everything worked. He looked at it for a second like he was waiting for a catch.

There wasn't one.
