2008 Volkswagen Touareg Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
He landed after a late flight, walked out to the economy lot near Spring Valley, and the Touareg just sat there. No response. He clicked the fob a few times the way everyone does, like clicking harder changes anything, and nothing happened.
He called the dealer first. Earliest they could take him was Thursday. It was Tuesday. A tow company quoted him a number he didn't want to hear. He had a documentary shoot starting in four hours across town, gear already staged, crew already confirmed. Then he found EZ Car Keyz.
I got to him in under an hour. The fob had a completely dead CR2025, which had taken out both the remote signal and the push-to-start wake-up at the same time. That combination tends to panic people because the car acts like it doesn't recognize the key at all. First thing I did was walk him through the emergency blade slot inside the fob housing, showed him how it works so he'd know for next time, and got the door open that way.
From there I connected through the OBD port, checked the key's status against the vehicle's security system, and confirmed the key was still enrolled. Battery swap, cleared the communication fault, ran every function. Locks, start, the whole sequence.
He had a spare CR2025 in his camera bag before I left. Made his shoot on time. He told me the dealer had quoted him more than twice what I charged, plus a two-day wait and a tow he'd have to arrange himself.
That part was almost an afterthought by then. He was already thinking about the shoot.
