2017 Volkswagen Touareg Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A driving school owner in Bressi Ranch needed keys made for his training vehicles, including a 2017 Volkswagen Touareg. His instructors had been sharing keys between cars and the shuffle had finally caught up with him. One fob had stopped locking reliably, another was outright missing, and the whole situation was slowing down the start of every lesson.
He had already called the VW dealer. They quoted him per key, wanted each vehicle brought in on separate days, and had a lead time that meant days of a training car sitting idle. That math did not work for a school running lessons six days a week.
I drove out to his lot in the morning. The Touareg was first. The existing fob was still starting the car, but the lock button had gotten intermittent, which the instructors had been tolerating by just using the door handle. I pulled the fob apart and the battery contact had a slight bend to it, probably from someone forcing it closed after a battery swap. Straightened the contact, confirmed the original fob was actually fine, then added the new key through the OBD port so he had a proper spare.
Tested every button on both fobs, confirmed both started the car, walked the doors. Done before his first student arrived.
He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer quoted, and nobody had to leave the lot.
