In Ventura, over at Ventura River Preserve, I met a 2000 Acura RL owner with a gray valet key and a locked glove box.
He had been living with it, thinking the trunk latch was acting up, because the key would start the car but would not turn the trunk or glove box. On these RLs, that is exactly how the valet key is supposed to behave.
I cut a fresh master key and cloned the transponder off his working key so it would start the car and also operate the trunk and glove box the way a master should.
Then we tested doors, trunk, glove box, and a few start cycles. When the trunk finally opened, he just laughed and pulled out a stack of old parking receipts he had forgotten were in there.
