From there I connected through OBD and ran the all-keys-lost immobilizer learn, which clears old keys and registers the new one from scratch. His smart key, FCC ID HYQ2ES, was a 5-button proximity fob. I cut him a spare too so he wouldn't be in this situation again.
His Cadillac started in the same lake house driveway. Total was around 291. Dealer wanted 542 plus a tow and a multi-day wait. Lock decode to engine running took about 50 minutes.
