Got a call from someone near the Carpinteria Valley Museum area. She had a 2018 Cadillac XT5, one working smart key left, and a dead one that had been through the washing machine the week before. The washer-survivor was toast. Corroded board, swollen CR2032, done.
She had already called the Cadillac dealer. They told her it would be a few days before they could get her in, and the fob had to be ordered first. She just wanted a second working key before the remaining one quit on her too.
I met her on site during the afternoon. Generated a new HYQ2EB fob, programmed the transponder through the OBD-II port using the Body Control Module security access procedure. The BCM on these C1XX trucks handles all the fob registration. Once the new fob's ID is written in, I ran every function. Lock, unlock, remote start, liftgate, push-to-start. Then I confirmed her original surviving key still worked too, because re-registering one fob can wipe others if the process isn't handled right.
She watched most of it from a bench. At one point she said she didn't realize the car even had an emergency key blade inside the fob. Pulled it out and showed her where it goes in the driver door, just in case.
Whole thing took about 35 minutes. She kept the dealer appointment slot but canceled it from her phone before I left. Saved a good chunk and didn't lose half a workday.
