2018 Acura TLX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in the Garden Road Area of Poway, a food truck owner flagged me down one afternoon after the lunch crowd cleared out. He had a 2018 Acura TLX and a fob that had started acting up gradually over a few weeks.
First it was just reduced range on the lock button. Then the door handle touch sensor got inconsistent. By the time he called me, he was pulling out the emergency key blade to get in half the time.
He told me the dealer quoted him a significant wait and a price that made him pause. A family member told him smart keys on Acuras were dealer-only. He'd read something similar online on a forum post that was several years old and not really about his car.
I met him right there, car sitting in the same spot it had been all morning. Popped the fob open and the CR2032 inside looked original. Not obviously dead, but tired. Swapped it, reseated everything, cleaned the contacts. Touch unlock on the driver door came back. Range on the lock button came back. Tested every function before I called it done: lock, unlock, the handle sensors on both front doors, the trunk release, and the push-to-start response.
That was it. The fob didn't need programming. The car didn't need to go anywhere. He was back to his truck in the time it took me to drink half a water bottle.
Not every call is a full replacement. Sometimes it's just knowing what to check first and doing it on site instead of telling someone to haul their car across town.
