2023 Acura TLX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2023 Acura TLX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was out in Nestor on a Tuesday when the call came in from a woman in the Otay Mesa area. Her 2023 TLX had been sitting in a parking lot for over an hour.

The fob was in her hand, the door handle wasn't responding, and the car was showing a key-not-detected warning on the dash. She said she'd already tried holding the fob right up to the handle. Nothing.

When I pulled up, I asked her if anything had changed recently. She mentioned she'd added a garage door opener clipped to her keyring right next to the fob. Something that happens more than people expect: another RF-emitting device sitting directly against a smart fob can create enough interference to degrade the signal, especially at close range to the antenna in the handle.

I had her pull the fob off the ring and hold it alone. Door opened on the first touch.

That was the easy part. The longer conversation was about what she'd been told by the dealer when she called them first. They'd already quoted her the cost of a full fob replacement and a diagnostic appointment. She had an appointment scheduled for the following week.

I showed her the battery contacts while I had the fob open, checked the blade insert, confirmed the battery voltage, and walked every door handle and button. Everything was solid. She cancelled the dealer appointment from the parking lot.

No new hardware. No tow. Just a clear head about what the actual problem was.
