I was parked on the street near a luxury apartment complex in Millenia, Chula Vista, finishing up notes on a previous job, when the call came in.
The owner of a 2008 Audi A3 had already been through it. He had searched for a locksmith, picked the first sponsored result, and the guy who showed up quoted one price on the phone and a very different one at the car. He paid it. On these 2008 A3s the immobilizer data lives there, and without that PIN you are not writing anything to the system. The previous tech had apparently skipped that step entirely, which explained why the key cranked the car and nothing else.
Once I had the PIN I ran the full immobilizer sequence, registered his flip key properly, and confirmed all four buttons. Then the real test: key in, engine over, idle steady. Done.
He did not need a dealer. He did not need a tow. He needed someone who actually knew the system, close by, on a Saturday afternoon in Millenia.
