I got a call from a shop over in Bressi Ranch in Carlsbad. They had a 2013 Audi A3 sitting in their bay and the owner was down to one key, a badly worn one that was getting harder to turn every week. The shop wanted to hand the customer a working spare before the original gave out completely.
When I showed up, the original key was worn enough that you could see the cuts had rounded off at the peaks. The blade had just been used hard for over a decade. I decoded the existing blade on site, cut a fresh replacement key to match, and tested it in both the ignition and the door lock. Smooth turn, first try.
The owner had actually called the dealer earlier that week. They told him to come in, leave the car, and allow a couple of days because they wanted to verify the key code through their system. He didn't want to leave the car. That's the whole reason he looked for a mobile option.
I had him sorted in under thirty minutes in the parking lot. He drove out with a working spare and an original that still functions as a backup. The dealer route wasn't wrong, it just wasn't necessary for this job.
