2021 Audi A3 Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the Ferry Landing area in Coronado when the call came in. Owner of a 2021 A3, said she only had one key left and it was starting to feel loose in the ignition. She wanted a spare made before she ended up stranded.
When I pulled up she was already outside, watching a ferry cut across the water. The car was in a lot a short walk from the waterfront. Nice afternoon for a key job.
The original key was worn on the blade, which is common when one key has been doing all the work for years. I decoded the blade from the existing key, cut a new one to match, and then handled the transponder enrollment through the OBD port. On this generation of Audi, you cannot just hand someone a cut key and call it done. The immobilizer has to be told a new key exists, and that takes the right equipment and the right connection to the vehicle.
She asked if it was going to take long. I told her less time than a coffee run. By the time she came back with two cups from a place nearby, both keys were tested and working.
She had called the dealer earlier in the week. They quoted her a wait and a price that made her put the phone down. Getting it done in a parking lot near the water, same afternoon, was not what she expected. That is usually how it goes.
