2013 Audi A5 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A shop over in Lomas Santa Fe called me in on a salvage job. Not my original work. Another locksmith had attempted an all-keys-lost procedure on a customer's 2013 Audi A5 and something went wrong mid-read. The immobilizer module locked up. The shop's own tech couldn't get it to respond through the OBD port at all. The car was just sitting there, and the customer was already past frustrated.
I pulled the module and moved to the bench. The process on this car involves reading the encrypted chip data directly, sending it out for calculation, and getting back a file that lets you regenerate key credentials and re-initialize the immobilizer from scratch. It's not fast. You wait on the calculation return, then you do the reinstall and OBD learning on top of that.
The part people don't see is how careful the bench work has to be. One interrupted read and you're deeper in the hole than when you started. I've seen other module recovery attempts turn a recoverable situation into a parts-replacement conversation.
This one came back clean. Module went back in, new fob paired, car started. The whole job ran about two hours from the time I pulled in.
The customer had already been quoted a tow plus dealer time. What he paid me was a fraction of that, and he drove out the same afternoon.
