2010 BMW Z4 Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near Ramona Country Estates, a guy called me on a Thursday afternoon with half a key in his hand. The other half was still inside the ignition cylinder of his 2010 BMW Z4. He had already called one other locksmith who told him the cylinder would need to be drilled and replaced. On a BMW, cylinder replacement is not a cheap repair, and it was completely avoidable.
I drove out to him.
The broken fragment was seated in the cylinder, but it had not rotated or jammed deep into the mechanism. I worked through the extraction methodically, protecting the wafer surfaces the whole time, and got the broken piece out clean. No scoring, no damage to the cylinder internals.
Once the cylinder was clear, I decoded the lock from the wafer readings right there and cut a replacement key blade to match. The new key went in, turned the ignition, and the engine started on the first try.
He stood there for a second and said something like, "That's it?" That reaction is its own kind of satisfaction.
The other locksmith's plan would have added a cylinder replacement on top of a new key. What I charged was a fraction of that path, and his original BMW lock still works exactly as it did before.
