2000 Buick Park Avenue Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A set designer living out in Rancho Del Oro called me about a Park Avenue that was giving him fits. Another locksmith had cut and programmed a replacement key for him maybe a week before. The car started fine the first morning, started fine for a few days, and then it stopped.

Not every time. That was the part that had him second-guessing everything. Cold start in the morning, no problem. Drive it somewhere, shut it off, come back out an hour later, and the security light would sit there solid and the engine just cranked without catching. He figured it was a bad key, but he was not sure enough to pay for another one somewhere else.

I drove out and put eyes on it. The key itself looked fine. Turned smoothly, no wear issue. But when I pulled the transponder data with my programmer, the chip read was inconsistent. It was not a clean, stable signal. The previous key had the wrong chip variant in it, one that could pass the initial learn sequence and fool the system on the first few starts, but fail the deeper verification the immobilizer runs after the car has been driven and the security module has had time to settle in. Classic counterfeit-adjacent problem with cheap key blanks.

I programmed a new key using the correct chip for this application. Tested it through four cold starts and two restarts after short drive cycles, right there in Rancho Del Oro. No security light. Engine caught every time.

He mentioned the dealer had quoted him considerably more just to diagnose it before any parts or labor. He paid a fraction of that to have it done right, in his driveway, same afternoon.
