I got a call out to the Grossmont Area of La Mesa on a weeknight. Guy had a 2004 Buick Park Avenue sitting in his driveway and wasn't going anywhere.

The key would turn, the engine would crank, and then it would die. Every time. He thought it was fuel. His brother thought it was the starter. Neither of them were thinking about the transponder.

I asked him one question before I even loaded up: does the security light stay on after the engine dies? He checked. It did. That told me most of what I needed.

I cut a new key blade to his vehicle, programmed the replacement transponder to the car right there in the driveway, and ran the security relearn. The Park Avenue started and held idle like nothing had ever been wrong.

He'd already called the dealer. They wanted him to tow it in and leave it overnight. I was done before he would have even dropped it off.
