2011 Cadillac DTS
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2011 Cadillac DTS Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy parked off Jamacha Road near Dictionary Hill. He had driven out to run errands, came back to his 2011 Cadillac DTS, and the key would not turn the ignition at all. Not a dead battery. Not a bent key. The ignition cylinder had tightened up, and the key he had was so worn down it had stopped doing its job cleanly.

He had one key. That was the whole supply.

I drove out to him with blanks and my cutting equipment already loaded. I decoded the worn key to get the original cuts, then made him a fresh replacement cut to his vehicle. With a properly cut key in hand, the cylinder turned without complaint. The transponder in the new key did its job, the security system recognized it, and the DTS started right there on the shoulder.

The thing he kept talking about was the worn key. He said he had been jiggling it for months, thinking it was just the steering lock. A lot of owners put up with that for way too long. A worn key puts stress on the ignition cylinder and can eventually damage it to the point where cutting a replacement key is not enough.

He saved a good chunk over what a dealer would have quoted him for the same job, and he did not have to tow the car anywhere.
