I got a call from a woman near the Cedros Design District in Solana Beach. She had a 2022 Ford EcoSport and a fob that was in rough shape. The shell had cracked along the seam where the blade pivots out, and the whole thing was being held together with a hair tie. She'd been using it that way for about three weeks.

I transferred the internals into a replacement shell, seated everything correctly, confirmed the blade was seating and releasing the way it should, and ran through all three buttons plus the emergency blade function. Everything came back clean on the first check.
She mentioned she'd never had a spare. I took care of that too, programming a second fob on site so she'd have backup going forward. Two working keys, one visit, done in her driveway. The dealer comparison came up again at the end. I just told her to call me next time before she calls them.
