2017 GMC Yukon Xl Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Carmel Valley called me on a Tuesday evening. He had his 2017 Yukon XL sitting in his driveway, one key to his name, and he'd just watched his five-year-old drop it into a storm drain. He heard the splash. He knew it was gone.
He found me while he was still crouching over the drain grate.
When I got there, he was calm but tired. He had the VIN ready, which made everything move faster. I pulled up the vehicle, confirmed the key type, and got the programming equipment connected at the OBD port. The job on a smart key like this is not quick by nature. The security system has a handshake process that takes the time it takes. I told him that upfront so he wasn't standing there wondering why I wasn't done in five minutes.
While we waited through the process, he mentioned he'd called the dealer first. They told him they couldn't get him in until Thursday and would need the car there, which meant a tow since he had zero working keys.
We finished in his driveway. No tow, no Thursday, no waiting room.
The five-button fob was tested on all functions, the door locks, the liftgate, the panic. Everything worked. He asked if he should get a spare made while I was already set up. I said yes. He said let's do it. Smart call.
