2025 Hyundai Kona
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you're not one of those scam locksmiths?

It's a fair thing to ask. Scam locksmiths are a documented problem in the San Diego area, and Hyundai owners dealing with a key emergency are exactly the kind of stressed, time-pressured situation those operations look for. The pattern is almost always the same: a low number quoted over the phone, then a completely different number once they're on site and you're committed. EZ Car Keyz gives you a firm price before anyone drives anywhere.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. Every function gets tested before I hand it back to you. Lock, unlock, liftgate, the full sequence through push-button start, all of it. The 2025 Kona's smart key has to be properly paired to the vehicle's immobilizer, not just cut and handed over. If the pairing is incomplete or the fob is the wrong variant for your market, you'll get partial function at best.

Q: My 2025 Kona starts fine but shows a key-not-detected warning. What's going on?

This is one of the more common calls I get on late-model Hyundais. The car started, so the immobilizer accepted the fob, but the system is throwing a warning anyway. A few things cause this. Low battery in the fob is the most common. The CR2450 in the 2025 Kona can test at a voltage that looks acceptable on a basic meter but isn't strong enough for consistent communication at distance. Swap the battery and see if the warning clears.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2025 Kona. Can you still make a replacement?

Yes. All-keys-lost on the 2025 Kona is a job that requires professional diagnostic equipment to recover the vehicle's PIN data and re-enroll new fobs from scratch. The process wipes the old keys so they can't be used to start the car, which matters if the reason you lost them is that they were stolen. It takes longer than a standard add-a-key job, but it's absolutely doable on site. You don't need to tow the car anywhere.

2025 Hyundai Kona Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already parked in Spring Valley, restocking the van after an earlier job near Dictionary Hill, when the call came in.

Two people had been at a spot near Dictionary Hill on a Saturday night and came out to a Kona that wouldn't respond to anything. No door unlock, no response from the push-button start, nothing. They'd already tried locking and unlocking manually. One of them looked up "Hyundai locksmith Spring Valley" and got me.

I was 12 minutes out and had everything for their fob already in the van. CR2450 cells, the correct smart fob housing for the 2025 Kona, and the programming equipment to pair it.

When I got there, I pulled up the fob and checked the battery first. It tested low, not completely dead, just low enough that the car's receiver was rejecting it. Swapped the CR2450, reseated the contacts, and the door handles came back immediately. No programming needed at all.

Then the part that actually matters: I walked every function. Doors, handle touch response, the button that opens the liftgate, all of it. Tested the start sequence. Watched the dash clear.

They didn't need a full replacement. They needed the right person on site who could tell the difference between a fob that's failed and one that's just starved for power. That's the call most owners can't make from a parking lot at 10pm.

The dealer conversation never came up. They drove home that night.

Hyundai Kona Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Hyundai vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is a California BSIS licensed locksmith company (LCO#6792), fully insured, and NASTF Vehicle Security Professional certified. The 2025 Kona is a late-model vehicle with a current-generation immobilizer, and pairing a new smart key to it requires professional diagnostic equipment and current software that can read the vehicle's PIN data. Not every locksmith who shows up for a Hyundai call actually has what it takes to get into that system.
