2012 Hyundai Veloster
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2012 Hyundai Veloster Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got the call around 12:30 in the morning. A Veloster owner over in The Crosby section of Rancho Santa Fe. His only fob had stopped being recognized and the car was sitting in his driveway going nowhere. He had already started pricing out flatbed tows for the morning.

I told him to stay put.

When I pulled up, he was standing outside in the dark looking at the car like it owed him an explanation. The Veloster was locked, no working fob, and he had no backup key. Classic all-keys-lost situation on a smart key system.

I connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the Hyundai smart key system. On the 2012 Veloster, the process reads the security PIN from the immobilizer module and then walks through full key registration from scratch. It takes a little time because there is a built-in delay in the sequence, but it is not complicated work once you have the right tools and know the platform. I programmed a fresh fob in the driveway and tested every button, the doors, and the start function before I packed up.

He watched the whole thing happen in about 40 minutes. I think he genuinely expected a two-day dealer ordeal.

The dealer comparison came up on its own. He mentioned what the service writer had quoted him the last time something came up on this car. What I charged was a fraction of that, and this was done at his house at 1am instead of a Tuesday morning after a tow.
