A woman had walked out with two bags of groceries and her 2016 Veloster was showing a key-not-detected warning on the dash. Fob was in her hand the whole time. She hadn't done anything unusual. No jump start, no battery work. It just decided not to cooperate.

Swapped it, cleaned the contacts, seated it correctly, and went through every function: lock, unlock, trunk, and the panic. All of it came back clean.
She mentioned her dealer had already quoted her a full fob replacement, which would have meant cutting and programming a new unit entirely. That job wasn't necessary here. The right call was diagnosing before replacing, and doing it in a parking lot in about twenty minutes instead of a service bay in a week and a half.
She saved a good chunk. More importantly, she didn't leave her groceries in a hot car waiting for a tow.
