2020 Jaguar F-Pace
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Do I have to tow my F-Pace to the Jaguar dealer if I have no working keys?

No. Dealers will tell you to tow it in, and they're not wrong that they can do the job. They're just not the only option. I bring JLR-capable tools to your location. The programming happens at the car through the OBD port. No flatbed needed.

Q: How long does an all-keys-lost job take on a 2020 F-Pace?

Plan for one to two hours on site for an all-keys-lost. The security system on this generation has a timed re-enrollment sequence built into the procedure, so there is a window you work within rather than just clicking through menus. Cutting the blade and enrolling the fob both happen during the same visit. Dealer timelines are a different story. Tow-in, intake, service queue, actual programming, pickup.

Q: My 2020 F-Pace shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is new. What else could cause that?

A fresh CR2032 in the fob rules out the obvious, but it does not rule out everything. The 12V battery under the hood is the next thing to check. When that battery starts to drop below a healthy voltage, the vehicle's communication network can start misbehaving in ways that look like a key problem. A key-not-detected warning, reduced fob range, and intermittent no-start can all point back to a weak 12V rather than a fob or module failure.

Q: Can I program a second fob to my F-Pace myself, or do I always need a professional?

Always need a professional on this one. There is no ignition-turn sequence or button trick that works on the 2020 F-Pace smart key system. Enrolling a new fob requires diagnostic equipment that communicates directly with the vehicle's security system through the OBD port. Buying a fob blank online and hoping to self-program it will get you a key blank that sits in a drawer doing nothing. The programming is the job.

2020 Jaguar F-Pace Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman in Fletcher Cove, Solana Beach, who had a 2020 Jaguar F-Pace and wanted a spare key made. Not an emergency. She had her original fob working fine. She just wanted a daily-use spare, something she could hand off or keep in her bag without worrying about being stranded.

Her first question before I even got to her driveway was whether the replacement would be "dealer quality." She was direct about it, which I respect. She didn't want a key that worked once and then started acting up.

Honest answer: OEM Jaguar fobs carry the leaping cat and the brand markup that comes with it. A quality aftermarket blank for this generation uses the same transponder chip, the same button count, the same housing dimensions. I have programmed enough of these across JLR vehicles to know which blanks hold up and which ones I won't touch. The ones I carry have been run through enough real jobs that I trust them.

I decoded the door lock for the blade cut, ran the blade on my machine, then connected through the OBD port and enrolled the new fob into her vehicle's security system. The whole thing took about forty minutes at her curb. She tested every button, tried the door handles, sat in the driver's seat and confirmed the start function. Everything matched the behavior of her original fob.

She didn't ask about the dealer price. I didn't bring it up. She just wanted to know it would work tomorrow the same way it worked today. That's the only answer that matters on a job like this.

Jaguar F-Pace Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I lost all my keys to my 2020 F-Pace. Can you make a new one without towing it anywhere?▼

Yes. All-keys-lost on a 2020 F-Pace is one of the more involved smart key jobs out there, but it does not require a tow. The process wipes all previously stored key identities from the vehicle's security system and re-enrolls fresh ones from scratch. It requires professional diagnostic equipment capable of communicating with the JLR security architecture, which I carry.
