My key shell is cracking and I think the emergency blade inside is missing or uncut. Can you sort that out?

Yes, and it comes up more than you'd think on F-Pace units that passed through auction or dealer trade. The emergency blade lives inside the smart fob housing, and on some vehicles it never got cut because the previous owner never needed it until they did.

We can cut a new blade to your vehicle, swap the electronics into a fresh shell, and verify the blade seats properly in the driver door lock, all on site. No reprogramming needed if the internal board is intact, because the electronics transfer with the swap. If the board itself is damaged, we do a full replacement key on site. Either way you're not driving to a dealer and waiting days for a part order.

What actually is a smart key and why does the 2022 F-Pace need one?

A smart key is a fob that does two separate jobs at once. The RF side handles your lock, unlock, and other button functions. The transponder chip inside handles engine authorization. When you press the start button, the vehicle's keyless module reads the chip in the fob and checks it against what's stored in the immobilizer. If both sides match, the engine starts. If either side is wrong or the fob isn't properly enrolled, it doesn't.

The 2022 F-Pace fob has five buttons and a hidden emergency blade folded into the housing for situations where the smart system can't operate, like a fully dead fob battery or a keyless module fault. There's a removable cover on the driver door handle that reveals the blade slot. That backup access point matters more than most owners realize until they're locked out at an inconvenient time.

My F-Pace is showing a key-not-detected warning. What should I check first?

Start with the fob battery. The 2022 F-Pace uses a CR2032, and a battery that's low but not dead can cause exactly this symptom, intermittent on startup before it fails completely. Swap it out first before assuming anything deeper is wrong.

If a fresh battery doesn't clear it and you have a second fob, test that one. If both fobs trigger the warning, the issue is more likely on the vehicle side, possibly an antenna or module concern rather than both keys failing at once.

One thing worth trying if the battery is genuinely dead: hold the fob flat against the start button itself. Most vehicles in this class have a passive transponder reader built into or near that button for exactly this situation. The car may still start even with a fob that has no battery power left.

If none of that works, that's a diagnostic call. There are vehicle-side faults that produce the same warning and those need tools to read properly.

I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it to my 2022 F-Pace?

Maybe, but there's a catch worth knowing before you get your hopes up. The fob housing and the RF board are only part of what makes a smart key work on this vehicle. The transponder chip inside also has to be correctly written and matched to your vehicle's keyless module during programming. Some aftermarket fobs sold online are supplied blank or with a generic chip that isn't compatible with this generation's authentication process.

If the fob you bought is the right hardware spec and the transponder side is workable, we can program it on site. If it's not, we supply a compatible replacement and program that instead. Either way the programming itself requires diagnostic equipment connected to the vehicle. There's no self-program sequence on this system.

Question 5

All my keys are lost or stolen. Can a new key still be made for my 2022 F-Pace?

Yes. All-keys-lost is a standard job on this platform. The process clears the existing key memory so any stolen fobs can no longer start the vehicle, which matters as much as getting the new key made.

It takes longer than adding a spare when you still have a working key, because the module has to be fully reset before new fobs are enrolled. Plan for it to take longer than a simple add-a-key appointment. We carry the hardware to do this on site in the Beyer Blvd Corridor, so you're not waiting on a dealer order or a tow. Proof of ownership is required before we start.
