2009 Kia Sedona Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Bonsall, on a warm Saturday afternoon, I got a call from a guy who had been standing next to his 2009 Kia Sedona for about forty minutes trying to figure out his next move.
He'd bought the van used a couple of years back and had only ever had the one key. That key was gone. No spare, no backup, no idea what the previous owner did with the second one. He assumed his weekend was done and the van wasn't moving until Monday at a dealer.
I told him I could be out to him that afternoon and we could handle the whole thing on site.
When I got there, the van was locked, obviously, and there was no key to work from at all. I started at the door lock, decoded the lock mechanically to get the exact cut depths I needed, then cut a new key blade to match. From there I connected through the OBD port, retrieved the PIN, and ran the all-keys-lost sequence. On the Sedona, that process wipes any previously registered keys from the immobilizer memory and starts clean, so whatever happened to that original key, it can't be used to start this van anymore.
I handed him a working key, watched him start the engine himself, and let that moment land before saying anything. He'd been mentally writing off the whole weekend.
The dealer quote he'd looked up while waiting for me was more than double what he paid, and that didn't even include the tow he thought he was going to need. He saved a good chunk and got home before dinner.
