I brought my ACDP bench tool as backup. I recovered through OBD by stabilizing the battery with my jump pack, then clearing fault codes with my IM608 before starting a clean programming sequence. On Kia, the immobilizer logic sits in the BCM or smart key module depending on the platform. His smart key, FCC ID SY5YPFGE06, was a 6-button proximity fob. The fault cleared and the new fob learned on the first attempt.
Total was about an hour and a half. His bill was $223. The alternative was a flatbed to the dealer, a multi-day wait, and $401 or more.
