2022 Lexus UX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How does mobile smart key replacement work for this vehicle?

You call, give me your VIN and situation, and I confirm the correct fob and what the job involves. When I arrive, I have the key blank, the cutting equipment for the emergency insert blade inside the fob, and the diagnostic tools needed to register the new fob to your UX's immobilizer. I connect at the OBD port, run the enrollment sequence, re-verify any existing keys so nothing drops off, and test everything before I pack up.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you arrive?

Just the vehicle, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership such as your registration or title. I pull the VIN from the dashboard or door jamb to verify everything before I cut anything. That is the whole list. Some owners have mentioned that scheduling a second key through the dealer for newer Lexus models involves additional verification steps and parts lead times that stretch into weeks.

Q: I have one key left for my 2022 UX. Can you add a second without erasing the first?

Yes, and this is actually the preferred way to do it. Adding a key while you still have one working fob is the easier version of the job. The immobilizer enrollment process on the UX lets me register the new fob while keeping your existing key active in the system. No keys get wiped. Both fobs work when I am done.

Q: The start button on my UX shows a key warning even though the fob is right there. What is going on?

A few things can cause this. A weak CR2032 is the first thing to check. Even if the fob was working yesterday, a battery that is on its way out can trigger a key-not-detected warning intermittently, especially if the fob is in a bag or pocket that puts distance between it and the cabin antenna. Swap the battery and test with the fob held close to the start button.

2022 Lexus UX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out near Dictionary Hill, I got a call from a UX owner who had already done everything right. She bought a replacement fob online, swapped the CR2032 in herself, and read three forum posts before calling me. She was not the problem. The fob was just sitting unpaired.

She had been driving on her one remaining key for about two weeks after losing her spare. The car ran fine. The issue was that she wanted a second key in case the first one died or got lost again, which is a completely reasonable thing to want.

When I arrived, she handed me the fob she had ordered. Correct button count, correct appearance. I ran the VIN, confirmed the key specs, and got my programming equipment connected at the OBD port. The enrollment process on the UX immobilizer is not a quick ten-second job. It has a sequence, it has a countdown, and it will reject the procedure if you rush it or lose connection mid-way. I have seen cheaper tools fail here. I used the equipment I trust for Lexus.

New fob enrolled, original key re-registered so nothing got dropped from memory, tested all four buttons on both fobs, confirmed the door handle touch response on both sides, and verified the start button recognized both keys. Everything worked.

She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a significant wait on a factory-ordered fob plus a programming appointment that would have been its own separate trip. She had already done the smart part by sourcing the fob. She just needed someone who could finish the job on her driveway in Dictionary Hill without making her plan her week around a service bay.

Lexus UX Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2022 Lexus UX somewhere for key replacement?▼

Not at all. EZ Car Keyz is fully mobile and comes to you in Spring Valley, including out to Dictionary Hill. The 2022 UX does require professional programming equipment to register a new smart key to the immobilizer, but that equipment travels with me in the van. You do not need to tow the car, you do not need a working key to drive it to a shop, and you do not need to book a service appointment days out.
