A guy in Rancho Del Oro called me on a weekday afternoon. He'd broken his only key for his 1997 Mazda Protege, snapped it right in the ignition cylinder. Half the key was still in there.

I pulled up to his place with my extraction tools and a key decoder. Got the broken piece out of the cylinder without pulling the whole column, which is the part people don't expect. Once the cylinder was clear, I decoded the cut and made him a new key on site.
He tested it himself. Turned it over twice, just to be sure. It started clean both times.
The whole job was done in his driveway. No tow, no waiting at a service counter. He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer had quoted, and he had his car back the same afternoon he called.
