2013 Nissan Versa
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2013 Nissan Versa Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was close to 11pm when the call came in. Guy was standing in a taco truck lot somewhere off the main drag in Rancho El Cajon, one of those spots that's busy for about four hours and then dead quiet. He'd lost his only key to his 2013 Nissan Versa and the panic in his voice said he'd already been standing there a while.

He didn't know what a VIN was. He thought his registration might be in the glove box, which he couldn't get into. I slowed him down and told him to look through the windshield at the bottom of the driver's side glass. He found the plate. Then I asked him to open his insurance app on his phone - most of them carry registration documents now - and that had everything else I needed.

That VIN told me he had the SL trim, which meant the Intelligent Key setup, not the basic transponder the lower trims run. Different job, different blank, different programming procedure. Having that confirmed before I drove out meant I showed up with the right fob already in my bag.

I programmed the replacement under the parking lot lights. Ran every button, checked the door handles, confirmed the push-button start was seeing the new key. He watched the whole thing, which I prefer. By the time I was done he'd stopped checking his phone every thirty seconds.

He drove home that night. The dealer was closed, and even if they weren't, he'd have been looking at a tow plus a wait plus a bill that was a lot heavier than what I charged. The VIN was the thing that made the whole job go clean.
