2013 Ram 3500
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How does the mobile key replacement process work for my Ram 3500?

You call, give me your year, make, model, and VIN, and I confirm exactly what your truck needs. For the emergency blade on a 2013 Ram 3500 FOBIK, I either decode the existing lock cylinder or use your VIN to pull the correct key cut. I bring key blanks and a cutter. I make the blade on site, test it in the door and ignition, and you are done.

Q: What should I have ready when you arrive?

Just your truck, a valid photo ID, and proof of ownership like your registration or title. I pull the VIN from the dashboard or door jamb to confirm the correct key specs. That is it. No dealer visit required, no PIN retrieval process for an emergency blade job. The paperwork check is standard practice for any legitimate mobile locksmith, and it protects you as much as it protects me.

Q: My FOBIK battery died and now the truck won't start. Does the emergency blade fix that?

The emergency blade will get you into the truck mechanically, but starting is a different story. The FOBIK on these Ram trucks carries a transponder inside the fob body. When the battery dies, the fob can't send its wireless signal, but most of these trucks can still read the transponder passively if you hold the fob close to the ignition cylinder.

Q: Can I just buy a replacement FOBIK online and have it work without programming?

No. The remote functions and transponder both need to be programmed to your specific truck. An unprogrammed fob bought online will not start the vehicle and the remote buttons won't work. You still need someone with the right equipment to pair it. If you already bought one, that is fine, bring it along. I can program a customer-supplied fob as long as it is the correct type for your 2013 Ram 3500. Just confirm the part before you order.

2013 Ram 3500 Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from an HVAC tech parked at a taco spot off Spring Valley's Dictionary Hill stretch. His 2013 Ram 3500 was sitting fine, engine running, but he'd snapped the emergency blade out of his FOBIK trying to jimmy open a frozen toolbox on a cold morning. The blade itself was in two pieces. The fob still worked, still started the truck, but the metal blade was gone.

He'd already called the dealer. They told him the whole fob would need to be replaced and programmed, and the wait was over a week out for parts. He was not happy. This truck is his livelihood, not a weekend toy.

When I got there, I looked at the fob. The electronics were completely intact. The blade snap had nothing to do with the transponder or the remote functions. All he actually needed was a new blade cut to his vehicle. I decoded his existing lock to pull the correct cut, made the blade on site, and fitted it back into the fob housing.

He stood there for a second after I handed it back, testing it in the door like he expected it to be wrong. It wasn't. The whole call took less than 20 minutes. He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer was going to charge for a full fob replacement he didn't need.

The dealer's answer was not wrong exactly, just a lot more than the situation called for.

Ram 3500 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 2013 Ram 3500 somewhere for a replacement emergency key?▼

No. EZ Car Keyz is mobile. I come to your truck in Spring Valley, whether that is your driveway off Dictionary Hill, a job site, or a parking lot. For a lot of Ram 3500 owners, towing a heavy-duty work truck to the dealer just to get a blade cut is not a realistic option. I bring the cutting equipment to you, decode your lock or pull the key code, and hand you a working key on the spot.
