2023 Ram 3500 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A disabled veteran called me from the VA clinic parking lot in San Marcos, over in the Richland area. He uses a wheelchair, and getting himself to a Ram dealership across town was not a small ask. His aide was unavailable, and his one fob had stopped working reliably. He was not locked out completely, but he could not trust the truck and that was its own kind of stranded.
I drove to the clinic lot that morning. He stayed right where he was.
The fob itself turned out to be the main issue. The contact points inside had corroded just enough to make the battery connection intermittent. I inspected the key blade as well, decoded the cut against the lock, and confirmed everything matched. Swapped the internals into a fresh housing, seated a new CR2032 the right way, and then paired the replacement through the diagnostic port so the truck's security system recognized it cleanly.
He ran through every button from the driver's seat while I watched. Lock, unlock, the whole sequence. Truck responded every time.
He did not have to call anyone for a ride. Did not have to wait in a service queue. The dealer had quoted him a number that also assumed he could just drop the truck off for most of a day. He saved a good chunk, and the part that mattered most to him was that he never had to leave the parking lot.
