2001 Volkswagen Beetle
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2001 Volkswagen Beetle Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A grad student called me from his apartment parking lot in Fletcher Hills one morning. He had a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle and one working key left. Not lost, just worn down to the point where he was nervous about it. He wanted a spare before it gave out entirely.

He had already called the VW dealer. They quoted him a number that made him pause, and told him to bring the car in. On a graduate stipend, burning half a day sitting in a dealership waiting room was not going to happen.

I met him in the lot before his first class. I decoded his door lock right at the car, reading the wafer positions directly so I could cut a proper match without needing his worn key as a template. Then I moved to the OBD port and got the new flip key programmed into the immobilizer. Start to finish, the whole thing took under thirty minutes.

He checked the time, grabbed his bag, and made it to his lecture. Saved a good chunk versus what the dealer quoted, and he did not have to move the car anywhere.

That is pretty much the job on these. No tow, no drop-off, no waiting on a parts order. Just a parking lot in Fletcher Hills and enough time to get it done before his morning started.
