I pulled into the swim lesson parking lot off Peutz Valley Road around 10 in the morning. The guy who called me was already there, leaning against his 2006 Volkswagen Beetle with a fob in his hand that was barely holding together. The hinge had cracked through, the blade was flopping, and he was holding the whole thing together by squeezing it between his fingers to unlock the car.

I decoded the lock mechanically and cut a fresh key blade to match. Then I carefully transferred his original electronics, the transponder and the remote board, into a new flip key shell with a working hinge. No data lost, same fob identity the car already knew. I tested the blade in the ignition, checked lock, unlock, and the trunk button, and confirmed the transponder was reading clean.
The whole job was wrapped up before the instructor walked the twins out in their towels. He loaded them into their car seats, windows fogged up immediately, and he drove off. He saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote, and he never had to leave the car anywhere.
That is the job most of the time. Not dramatic. Just done before anything gets worse.
