When a 2009 Audi A3 key is done wrong, it does not just partially work. It fails. The engine might crank but the immobilizer kills fuel injection after two seconds. The remote might lock but not unlock. The comfort access might detect the fob one day and ignore it the next. Or the key programs initially but the car rejects it after a drive cycle.
A veterinary technician at the dog grooming shop in Main Street corridor in Ventura had a key made by another locksmith for her A3 that stopped working after about a week. Her fob also had a low CR2032 battery making the intermittent detection worse.
The replacement has been working since. Her cost was 298. The dealer would have charged 542. The difference between a key that works and one that works for a week is chip accuracy.
