2016 Audi A3
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Legitimate concern, especially for Audi work where the job is never cheap. The scam pattern is predictable: a generic Google listing, a low number quoted over the phone, then the tech shows up and the price multiplies at the car with add-on fees you never agreed to. Some owners have reported walking away paying four or five times the original quote with no recourse.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. The replacement is cut to your vehicle and programmed to match. Lock, unlock, and the other buttons on the 4-button remote all get tested before I leave. The transponder gets enrolled to the immobilizer so the engine starts normally. One thing worth knowing: if your car has been sitting with a drained battery, or had a battery disconnect recently, you may get a key-not-detected warning or the remote stops responding even though the key itself is fine.

Q: I bought a replacement flip key online for my 2016 A3. Can I program it myself or do I need someone with tools?

You need someone with the right diagnostic equipment. There is no ignition-turn sequence or button trick that adds a new key to the 2016 A3. The immobilizer enrollment has to be done through the OBD port with professional-grade software. The key blank you bought online can absolutely be used, we can cut and program it, just know the programming step is not a DIY job on this car. Bring the key and the car.

Q: My 2016 A3 flip key remote stopped working but the car still starts fine. What is going on?

This is a common split failure on flip keys and it almost always points to the remote side rather than anything serious. The remote circuit and the ignition/start circuit operate independently. When the remote stops working while the car still starts, the first thing to check is the CR2032 battery.

2016 Audi A3 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A shop over near Wagon Wheel in Oxnard called me on a Tuesday morning with a situation that had a clock on it.

They had a 2016 Audi A3 up on the lift, wheels off, brake job in progress. The customer had left one key. That key got knocked off the pegboard, went through a floor grate, and was gone. Customer was due back in two hours and had no idea any of this had happened yet.

I loaded up and drove out. The car was still on the lift when I got there, which made the OBD work easy. I read the immobilizer PIN through the diagnostic port, generated a new transponder, and paired it to the vehicle. Then I cut the blade to match the original profile using the code I pulled. The whole key was assembled, programmed, and tested before the lift even came down.

When the customer showed up, the shop handed him a working key, the car started, the remote locked and unlocked the doors, and nobody mentioned the drain. That part stayed between me and the shop.

They called me again two weeks later for a different customer's car. That is about as good a review as I get.

Audi A3 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Audi vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is a California BSIS licensed locksmith company, fully insured, and credentialed through NASTF as a Vehicle Security Professional. That NASTF credential matters on a car like the 2016 A3 because accessing immobilizer data through legitimate channels requires verified identity and a paper trail. Audi key work also involves the vehicle security system and component protection, which are not things a general locksmith with a basic key machine can navigate.
