Saturday afternoon out in Wilson Park, Oxnard. A tennis coach flagged me down in the parking lot near the courts. His 2010 A3 had one working flip key left, the NBG009272T four-button, and the second one had been missing for weeks. He wanted a spare before he was stuck with zero.
I decoded his HU66 lock and cut the blade first. Clean mechanical fit in the door and ignition. Then I plugged into the OBD port and connected to the immobilizer module through the instrument cluster. His was a VDO cluster with the 24C64 EEPROM. I used the VVDI Prog to read the cluster data and pull the component security bytes, then moved to the VVDI2 to run the key adaptation sequence and register the new ID48 chip.
Here is the part he did not expect. I walked to the far end of the lot pressing every button. Lock, unlock, trunk release, panic. Then I came back and started the car three times in a row. No fault codes, no intermittent hiccups, no yellow car-with-a-key warning on the cluster.
He stood there watching the third start like he was waiting for a catch. There was no catch.
