A vet tech at a dog grooming place along the Main Street corridor in Ventura called me about her 2009 A3. Another locksmith had cut her a new flip key about a week earlier. It started the car fine for the first few days. Then it got weird.

Her CR2032 was also low, which explained why the remote side was flaky on top of everything else. New battery, new correctly generated Megamos Crypto 48 chip matched to her specific immobilizer data, programmed through the OBD port and verified across two full start cycles.
She stood there watching the dash the whole second start, waiting for it to cut out again. It didn't.
