A weekend sailor down by Ventura Harbor, over in the Thompson Boulevard district, found my YouTube channel before he ever needed a locksmith. He had watched one of my Audi flip key videos, saw the actual tools and the actual process, and saved my number. When his 2008 A3's remote started acting up a few months later, intermittent lock and unlock failures and the comfort access going dead from more than a few feet away, he already knew who to call.
I met him in the parking area near the sailing club. His key looked rough. The button legends were completely worn off and the shell had a hairline crack near the flip pivot. But the real problem was inside. The CR2032 was original. Over seven years old. Corroded contacts.
I pulled the VVDI Key Tool and a fresh aftermarket shell with a new button pad. Transferred his Megamos 48 CAN chip and the 315 MHz remote board into the new housing. Wrote a fresh transponder profile and paired the remote frequency in one pass so the immobilizer and all four buttons registered together. FCC ID NBG009272T, same as original.
Tested every button. Tested start three times. Walked the remote range out to about 40 feet from the dock side. Everything locked in.
He kept turning the key over in his hand like it was a different car. Same key data, just a shell that finally worked the way it should. The whole job took less time than rigging a sailboat.
